Grade Level News

We have had a very successful first nine weeks! The children have had lots of fun learning, and we are very excited to see what the next few months hold. Please remember to check your child's binder nightly for any important information and classwork that has been sent home.

ELA: Students will be introduced to their first Big Book "Pet Fun" and will continue to practice chaining C-V-C words with the sounds that have been introduced. We will also be reading classic stories such as "Chicken Little," "The Three Little Pigs," "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," and many more!

Math: We will be completing our unit on numbers 0-10 by identifying numbers that are one less, then moving on to identifying 2-D and 3-D shapes and measurement.

Social Science Themes: Fall, Fire Safety, and Plants

Reminders: Math homework workbooks were sent home. These pages are to be used as a reinforcement. They do not have to be returned. Please refer to the newsletter for the pages to be done each week.

All Kindergarteners are using an aligned curriculum in each subject area to ensure that they are learning the Louisiana State Standards. The following curriculum are used:

  • Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a research-based, comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) program that integrates reading, language, writing, speaking, and listening and encompasses the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension).
  • Eureka Math is used for mathematics
  • FOSS is used for science

It is to your child’s benefit that you work with your child nightly on letter identification, letter sounds, number identification, high frequency words, and in writing their first and last name as well as sentence structure.  Together we can ensure that your child will have a successful year!  Your child’s education is essential to their future!  Again, thank you for your continued support!
