Enrichment

Computer Lab

All students in grades K through third will visit the computer lab weekly.

Our computer curriculum is as follows:  Success Maker will be done mainly in the homeroom classrooms.  In the labs, we will be working on technology skills such as keyboarding, Word, and PowerPoint.  The students will also have the opportunity to explore many fun educational websites including Smarty Ants (PK-3) and Achieve 3000 (grade 3).

Second and third grade students will be learning keyboarding using Typing Pal.

Library

All students in Kindergarten- 3rd grade come to the library once a week for 45 minutes.  Students in grades 1-3 will check out books and take AR tests.  1st and 2nd graders will check out one book a week. 3rd graders will check out two books a week and work on Achieve 3000 every other week.

All 1st – 3rd grade students will check out books on their individual reading levels, read them, take a quiz on the computer, and return the books so that more can be checked out. Check in/out is done on the computer.  Each library book has a barcode on the front cover.  These barcodes do not come off unless they are pulled off.  If the barcode is removed from the book, there will be a charge of $5.00.

If a child loses his/her library book or damages the book, he/she will have to pay for the book.

Books can be brought home to read, but please make sure to bring them back to school.  I want students to be able to check out as many books as they can to get as many points as possible. I want all of my students to look forward to coming to the library to see what new adventures unfold between the pages of a book.

P.E.

Welcome back as we begin another exciting school year.

In order to ensure that your child gets the most out of his/her P.E. experience, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Please make sure that your child has on appropriate footwear. Shoes should allow the child to be able to run around without the shoes flying off during the games/activities.  It is also difficult for students to run and play in high heel shoes/boots. This is dangerous for your child.  Tennis shoes are always the best choice on PE days. If your child is having trouble playing due to their shoes or if the shoes keep flying off- your child may be asked to sit out of the activity.
  • If your child has shoes that tie, he or she will need to be able to tie the shoes himself, or tuck the laces in.
  • If girls are wearing dresses/skirts please make sure shorts are worn underneath.
  • If the weather is cool be sure to send your child with a jacket because we may still be playing outdoors.

For the most part, it is VERY hot outside. There are no outdoor water fountains. Students will be allowed be bring WATER to PE with them.  Other drinks such as apple juice, box drinks, sodas, will not be allowed to PE; ONLY WATER.

I will send home monthly letters for the family to help promote health and activeness at home.  These activities are meant to be fun and are completely optional. Thanks so much in advance for the efforts you will make to ensure that your child is prepared for his/her PE class.

Sincerely,
Crystal Guidry
